QUESTION:

"What is Jesus' message to the church in America today?"

It's not too late to bow before God and plead for our nation.

ANSWER:

If Jesus has a message for the church in the West today, I believe it is "Stop being deceived by the size of your megachurches. Stop confusing large crowds with true revival. Stop going to church to be entertained and to have your ears tickled. Stop tolerating sin. Wake up, repent, and receive the power of the Holy Spirit afresh!"

We have an overriding challenge in America, and it is the temptation to compromise. To water down the message just a little bit at a time. To soften the Truth so it will be palatable to people. The devil has tricked so many of us into chasing after comfort, leisure, financial security, and popularity. And when we do that, our pulpits become stages, our churches become theaters, and our congregations become audiences. As the late revivalist Vance Havner said, "We sing ‘Just as I Am' and leave just as we came."

Unless we learn how to repent, turn to the Lord, and cry for mercy, we will continue in this downward spiral. But all glory be to our gracious God! For His Word tells us that when we humble ourselves, turn from our spiritual laziness, and seek Him with all our hearts, revival comes. It's not too late to bow before God and plead for our nation. It's not too late for God to hear and answer from heaven. It's not too late for revival to sweep our land.
