Read Judges 6:11-24.
For years, the Israelites struggled under the thumb of the cruel and oppressive Midianites, who had invaded their nation. The land God had given His people was lush and fertile, but the Midianites ravaged their crops, devouring and destroying their fields before they could bring in the harvest. As a result, the people were starving and impoverished. The Midianites did more than steal their food; they stole their peace.
As you focus on the wondrous Truth that God is with you, He will give you peace.
Eventually, the people of Israel cried out to God, and the Lord, in His mercy, chose a deliverer to rescue them from the hand of the wicked Midianites. Gideon, however, wasn't particularly strong or skilled in battle. On his own, he could never defeat the vast Midianite army. But with the power of God on his side, even Gideon could secure the victory. So, after being visited by the angel of the Lord and being assured of God's favor, he named the altar he had set up Yahweh Shalom, or "The Lord Is Peace" (Judges 6:24).
Do you feel as though your peace is constantly being stolen from you? In order to find true peace, you must go to the source. Turn to Yahweh Shalom. Repent of any sin that's keeping you from walking in close fellowship with your Savior. As you focus on the wondrous Truth that God is with you, He will give you peace, "which transcends all understanding," whatever your circumstances (Philippians 4:7).
Prayer: Father, You are my peace. I have hope because You are faithful and loving. You keep Your promises, and therefore, I am not afraid or consumed. You are with me; You are my comfort. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
"So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it The Lord Is Peace. To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites" (Judges 6:24).
