DECEMBER GIFT CHALLENGE

As created beings with finite minds living under the curse of the fall, it is easy to develop an idea of God based more on our experience and comfort rather than on His own Word about Himself. We put God in a box of our own design. We make Him too human—too much like ourselves—and miss out on the awesome majesty of the God of the Bible: the holy, infinite, divine one, who spoke the universe into being, who has no beginning and no end. He is the God who does not change, for who would change perfection?

Let's take some time to identify the ways that we have limited God or unwittingly made Him into our own image by examining what He has revealed about Himself in His Word.

Open Bible

He is the God who does not change, for who would change perfection?

  1. Read Acts 17:24-28, 1 Kings 8:27, Jeremiah 23:23-24, and Psalm 102:25-27. God is infinite and unlimited, which means His every attribute is likewise infinite: His love, wisdom, and more. He is self-existent, not needing us, but choosing to have a relationship with us. How does this change or grow your understanding of who God is?

  2. Read Romans 11:33, John 1:18, Psalm 145:3, and Deuteronomy 29:29. God is incomprehensible, and yet He sent His Son so that we might know Him. How will you respond to such an invitation to know the one true God?

  3. Read Malachi 3:6, James 1:17, Hebrews 13:8, Isaiah 57:15, Jeremiah 31:3, and Romans 11:29. Because God does not change, His love for you does not change. What impact does this Truth have on how you live your life?
  1. Read Psalm 139:1-4, Psalm 147:4-5, Psalm 33:13-15, Hebrews 4:13, and 1 John 3:19-24. All of our actions and thoughts are laid bare before the Lord of all. That means there is nothing in your life for which the blood of Christ does not atone. How does such assurance affect your identity, confidence, and relationships?

  2. Read Psalm 8:3-4, Psalm 113:4-9, Philippians 2:5-11, and Matthew 11:28-30. God sees you and longs to meet with you. He even came to you—laying aside His glory to bring you into it. What response does such humility and grace evoke in your heart?
